During certain months of the year, the peaceful hills and forests around our resort come alive with their unforgettable songs. For many guests, especially children, hearing cicadas for the very first time becomes one of the most magical memories of their stay.
Cicadas hold the title of the loudest insects on the planet. Some species can hit over 100 decibels, which is roughly as loud as a passing motorcycle.
Here's the twist: only the males sing. They're not distressed or in danger. They're singing to attract a mate, plain and simple. Think of it as nature's version of a love song! The louder and stronger the song, the better the chance of finding a partner.
Some cicada species spend up to 17 years underground before they ever see daylight. That's not a typo. Seventeen years.
During that time, they are not dormant. They live quietly beneath the soil, feeding on sap from tree roots and slowly growing. When conditions are finally right, they emerge together, shed their old skins, unfurl their wings, and start singing.

Muscles flex these membranes hundreds of times per second, and the clicks blur together into one continuous song.
